Dr. Sonal Patel Maru earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Boston University School of Dental Medicine. She went on to complete advanced training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, before starting her orthodontic residency program at St. Barnabas Hospital, in affiliation with Columbia University. Throughout her training, Dr. Patel Maru had the privilege of treating complex cases within underserved communities—an experience that deepened her clinical expertise and compassion. She also participated in multidisciplinary craniofacial conferences at Columbia, broadening her exposure to collaborative, specialized care.
After earning her certificate in orthodontics in 2005, Dr. Patel Maru worked as an associate in several successful practices. These formative years allowed her to learn from seasoned professionals and gain invaluable insight into both the art and business of orthodontics.
Today, Dr. Patel Maru is proud to practice in Glastonbury—a town she calls home with her husband and two daughters. Since relocating to the area in 2011, she has embraced the town’s close-knit, welcoming atmosphere and is thrilled to plant deep roots in a community that reflects the warmth she strives to bring to her work.
Her practice is built on a clear vision: to deliver exceptional orthodontic care with a personal touch. The state-of-the-art office is thoughtfully designed to ensure patients of all ages feel relaxed, supported, and engaged. Dr. Patel Maru takes pride in building genuine relationships with her patients, spending the time needed to understand their goals and address their concerns—ultimately helping them achieve healthy, confident, and radiant smiles.
Beyond her commitment to patient care at Glastonbury Orthodontics, Dr. Patel Maru holds a leadership role with the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and serves on the AAO’s Special Committee on Women in Orthodontics. Through this work, she advocates for representation, mentorship, and advancement of women in the field, while contributing to the growth and future direction of the orthodontic profession. In recognition of her leadership and dedication, she was recently invited to join this esteemed committee, where she is honored to serve as a role model and guide for the next generation of women in orthodontics.
