Sonal Patel Maru, DMD
Dr. Sonal Patel Maru earned her Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Boston University School of Dental Medicine. She went on to complete advanced training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, before starting her orthodontic residency program at St. Barnabas Hospital, in affiliation with Columbia University. Throughout her training, Dr. Patel Maru had the privilege of treating complex cases within underserved communities—an experience that deepened her clinical expertise and compassion. She also participated in multidisciplinary craniofacial conferences at Columbia, broadening her exposure to collaborative, specialized care.
Beyond her commitment to patient care at Glastonbury Orthodontics, Dr. Patel Maru holds a
leadership role with the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and serves on the AAO’s
Special Committee on Women in Orthodontics. Through this work, she advocates for
representation, mentorship, and advancement of women in the field, while contributing to the
growth and future direction of the orthodontic profession. In recognition of her leadership and
dedication, she was recently invited to join this esteemed committee, where she is honored to
serve as a role model and guide for the next generation of women in orthodontics.
