What to Expect

Consultation Appointment

At Glastonbury Orthodontics, our goal is to make your orthodontic journey a positive and comfortable experience. During your first visit, we will review your medical and dental history and perform a thorough clinical examination to determine if treatment is needed. We will also take the time to listen to your concerns and understand your goals for your smile.

If treatment is recommended, you will meet with our office coordinator to discuss the next steps, treatment fees and insurance benefits and schedule your appointment for orthodontic records.

Patient Forms

You can save time and expedite your first visit by downloading and completing the forms in our “New Patient Package” at home. Simply hand the forms to our receptionist at check-in. Also, remember to bring your insurance card and an ID with you to your first appointment.

Orthodontic Records

After you or your child has completed the initial consultation and you have decided to proceed with treatment, the next step is to schedule an appointment for orthodontic records. During this visit, we will take a series of photographs, diagnostic X-rays of the teeth and jaws, and impressions to create study models.

These comprehensive records give the orthodontist detailed information about the growth and development of the teeth, jaws, and facial structure. They help identify if any teeth are impacted, missing, extra, or if there are any unusual anatomical features or abnormalities. By combining this information with your medical and dental history and the clinical examination, we can make an accurate diagnosis and develop an effective treatment plan. We will review the diagnosis and proposed treatment plan with you prior to starting treatment. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and address any concerns.

As your treatment progresses, we will use these initial records as a reference point to monitor your progress and ensure everything is moving toward the smile you want.

Appointment Schedule

Once your orthodontic appliances are placed, we will typically schedule follow-up visits every 6 to 8 weeks to monitor your progress and make necessary adjustments.

The initial appointment, when your appliances are placed, is a longer visit—usually lasting 90 minutes. This allows us ample time to ensure the appliances are placed correctly, review care instructions, and answer any questions you may have to help you feel confident and informed.

After that, your regular adjustment appointments will be much shorter, typically lasting 20 to 30 minutes. If you notice anything loose or broken, please call us ahead of time so we can allow extra time in the schedule to make repairs.

We understand that unexpected things can come up. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we kindly ask that you give us at least 24 hours notice whenever possible.
